You’ll Never Believe Why This Chicago Reporter Bolted Mid-Sentence On Live TV
ABC7’s Christian Piekos was live-streaming the morning news in Chicago when something unexpected happened, and no, it wasn’t heat stroke.
A Normal Heat Report Takes a Wild Turn

What Really Happened on the Lakefront Trail
A few minutes later, Piekos returned with the kind of on-air explanation that’ll make your heart drop. A cyclist and a runner collided on the crowded Lakefront Trail, sending the cyclist flying over his handlebars. His helmet cracked on impact. Piekos and his photojournalist, James McIntyre, immediately rushed to help, first aid kit in hand. Thankfully, the cyclist said he was okay.

A Reminder About Trail Safety in the Summer
It was a jarring moment, and a powerful reminder: trails get crowded in the summer, and heat + speed + distraction = not great. “Scary situation,” Piekos said. “You gotta be careful out here.”
Not the Kind of Breaking News Anyone Wants
While the video doesn’t show the actual crash, it shows something else just as real, a reporter dropping the story to help someone. Humanity over headlines. And honestly? That deserves a headline of its own.
