Iconic Wisconsin Bar Sign Sold, Buyer Reveals Why They Bought It
88 Tavern in Beloit, Wisconsin, had been around for nearly three decades. The establishment has been known by a few different names, the aforementioned 88 Tavern, Kline's Club 88, and Kline's (Rooney's) 88 Pub Grub and Club. There are multiple accounts on Facebook for the 65 Portland Avenue location.
The tavern had dive bar vibes and had dedicated regulars who had their usual spots at the bar. Club 88 hosted live music, karaoke, many benefits, and other events.
Of the reviews shared on Facebook, the establishment was known for great food, service, and atmosphere.
Rooneys has awesome food!!! Service is great and the atmosphere is welcoming!!
The interior of the joint appears simple but not boring. The bar top definitely has a unique shape to it.
Where are the decorations?
The tavern definitely had more decor and signage but, unfortunately, it's the end of an era because the building will be demolished, according to Beloit Auction Realty.
The building occupied by Kline's Club 88 Tavern, in Beloit, Wisconsin, is set to be demolished.
Exactly why the building is being demolished is unclear but the good news is that a piece of the property's history will not be destroyed.
The iconic neon sign that has hung on the building for decades was sold during Beloit Auction & Realty's auction.
The sign, which was manufactured in Beloit, Wisconsin, was sold for just under $20,000 and, according to a note in Forgotten Wisconsin (on Facebook), the sign will stay in the area.
The double-sided neon sign in this picture sold last night at auction for $15,088 + about $3,000 buyer's premium. The purchaser is a Beloit area resident who wanted to ensure the sign remained in the Beloit area.
It's not certain what will be done with the sign but it would be great to see it either inside or ouydoor public place for residents to enjoy and relive memories.
