ComEd Wants To Pay And Train Rockford Teens For Employment

ComEd is asking young people if they would like to pay to go to college after high school or start earning money from them right away. 

There has been A LOT of discussions lately about the number of open positions in the trade industry with no one qualified to fill them. This is the perfect way for a young person to see if that career path is right for them.

ComEd's Tools of the Trade Program had to pause last year because of the pandemic and now they are looking to fill more jobs than ever before.

Here are the details of the program:

• Young adults ages 17 to 19 can earn as much as $700 for attending a six-week trade class.
• Students will familiarize themselves with the work, gain hands-on experience and develop a greater understanding of what it means to work for ComEd.
• The program takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 6 through Aug. 12
• Upon completion of the program, students will be ready to apply to jobs with wages starting as high as $27 per hour.

This should be a no-brainer for almost any 17-19 year old in the area. ComEd is essentially paying you $700 to take a 6-week course that could directly land you in a good-paying career directly out of high school.

Even if you don't want to go on to work for ComEd or anywhere in the electricity business, this is the kind of thing that looks AWESOME on a resume and will give any young adult some outstanding real-world experience right out of high school.

Applications to the program can be filled out on the Boys & Girls Club website. Applications must be submitted before May 28.
