Covid Ends Rockford’s Guilford High School Football Season Early
With the NIC-10 football season already shortened due to COVID-19, for one group of young men, the season is now over.
Another grim reminder that COVID-19 still plays a big role in how we get to live our lives. Too often, it's the students who have to endure some of the biggest changes. In what was already going to be a very different kind of football season, this news was just crushing for the Guilford Viking family. The entire Guilford High School football team is now under quarantine due to a COVID-19 exposure. That means the season is now over. Guilford Athletic Director Augie Toldo said,
"This isn’t the outcome we had hoped for, but we’ve been fortunate to have at least part of a season and some sense of normalcy for our student athletes.”
The Illinois High School Association just loosened mask restrictions for athletes competing in low-risk sports. I sure hope that is proven to be a good decision. The sports that are affected by the new IHSA mask policy are:
- Bass Fishing
- Baseball
- Softball
- Tennis
- Track & Field
