Best Day Trip Destinations Near Rockford

Sometimes you just need to get out of Rockford for a day without committing to a full-blown vacation. The good news? We're surrounded by some pretty incredible places that are only a couple hours away and make for the perfect day trip.

And before anyone says Chicago... that's not what we're talking about here.

I'm talking about places where you can unplug, get outside, and actually enjoy the drive (scenic or not!). Some of my favorite day trips involving hitting the trails. If you've never spent a day hiking at Devil's Lake in Wisconsin, add it to your list immediately. The views from the bluffs are absolutely worth the climb, and there's something about standing above crystal-clear lakes that never get old.

Another favorite is Starved Rock. The canyon trails, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks are so popular. It's the first place I got to see a waterfall in person! That was one of the most memorable moments in my life.
