Increased police presence ahead of a holiday weekend is nothing new in Illinois, but I can't help but feel it will be taken even more seriously this year.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that police patrols across the state are being increased this week through July 8th to crack down on impaired drivers and other moving violations.

The increased police activity isn't just about finding people driving under the influence. According to wrex.com, acting State Police Director Brendan Kelly said;

troopers will focus on identifying the four major violations that lead to fatal crashes: speeding, driving under the influence, failing to wear a properly adjusted seat belt and distracted driving.

Be safe, and Happy 4th of July, y'all!
