Mascot at Illinois community college named after Classic Rock legend.

When it comes to where you are going to get your education if you are going to public school, you really do not have a choice which institution you will attend. It usually goes by where you live and there are boundaries to control that. That is unless you choose to study at a private school. Otherwise, your family would have to move. Finally, when you reach college you can pick your school. You still have to meet any requirements to get in.

Many families will decide where to reside by the school district. That makes sense because you want to make sure your children get the best education possible. There are several factors that play a role in that decision. They would include facilities, teachers, programs, and athletics to just name a few.

I think there is something important that parents and students are overlooking. That is the school mascot. You are going to have to live with that decision for the rest of your life. There is going to have to be school spirit and pride. You are going to have to wear school gear. You are going to want a cool mascot that includes logo, name, and colors. If I could do it all again, I would use that as a major factor in picking my schools.

I did not really end up too bad. There was no grade school mascots for me. They did not start until middle school. There we were the Vikings. That is a cool looking logo. The colors were red and white which are a good combination.

In high school, our mascot was the Warriors (the Roman style). That again is cool. The mascot's name was Willie the Warrior, I can live with that. The colors were okay. Light blue and silver like the Detroit Lions.

For college, it was the Redbirds featuring Reggie the Redbird with red and white. I was all good with that.

There is a community college in Illinois that recently changed the name of its mascot and I really like it. I wish I was an alumni. I might even have to order some gear.

According to news-gazette.com,

"You can’t always get what you want, but the majority of Danville Area Community College students got satisfaction with the new name of their mascot, Mick Jaguar. Faculty and staff submitted ideas for a name. A team of staff and students narrowed the list down to eight contenders, and then students voted. “Mick Jaguar” won by a 54 percent to 46 percent vote, ahead of the second-place choice of “Jagger.”

I love it. He is named after Classic Rock Legend and lead singer of the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger. I just hope whoever wears the costume has some sweet dance moves like the namesake.

Note to any high schools looking to change their politically incorrect names to something new. You can never go wrong using a Rock n Roll legend.
