Cyclosporiasis is a gastrointestinal infection that commonly causes watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, and other digestive issues. While it's not life-threatening, symptoms can last anywhere from a few days to more than a month!
Most at risk of contracting Cyclosporiasis:
- Young children
- Older adults
- People with weakened immune systems
- People with chronic health conditions
The parasite spreads through contaminated food or water. In past outbreaks, illnesses have been linked to fresh produce like cilantro, basil, lettuce, raspberries, blackberries, and snow peas. However, officials say they have not identified a specific food responsible for the current increase in Illinois.
