Illinois Man Who Broke Into JCPenny Caught After Falling Through Ceiling
While police were outside the JCPenny store, the burglar spotted the them and tried hiding in the ceiling. That turned out to be a very bad decision.
Springfield police were dispatched to the the JCPenny at 1201 Dirksen Parkway just before 6 a.m. Tuesday morning after a burglary alarm was activated.
What they discovered was that the burglar had damaged the front door to gain entry to the store. While they were getting a perimeter set near the front door, the burglar laid eyes on them and chose a terrible place to hide.
Once he saw the police, the suspect climbed into the ceiling to hide. Things just went from bad to worse for this guy.
The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Johnathon Harter, of Springfield.
It wasn't long before the ceiling couldn't hold his weight and down he came. It's right as the ceiling gave way that I'd like to know what went through his mind. The fall from the ceiling wasn't the end of Johnathon's downward spiral. The fall through the ceiling to the floor was so severe, his injuries required a trip to the hospital.
Before his trip to the hospital the police recovered stolen jewelry and some burglary tools
