If you're planning a vacation anytime soon, here's your friendly remind to double-check what's actually allowed through TSA before you end up saying goodbye to your favorite hair dryer.

Let's be real, taking a loss at the airport is embarrassing.  Throwing away perfectly good things because it's not allowed on a flight is so, so, so tragic.  It's happened to me plenty of times!

TSA has gotten way stricter over the years, especially when it comes to anything battery-powered or homemade.

For starters, cordless hair styling tools like straighteners or curlers are a huge no-no unless the lithium battery is removed.  If you travel with a Dyson Airwrap... pack wisely or plan on saying goodbye to it.

Power banks are another item that can trip people up.  They can't go in your checked luggage or overhead bins, the must stay in your carry-on.  If it's unlabeled, or looks suspicious, TSA might not let it through at all.  Just like unlabeled lithium battery devices, those are questionable.

Large powered substances like protein powder, flour, or drink mixes are also prohibited.  Anything over 12 ounces could get flagged and tested.  So, maybe leave the bulk protein tb at home this time around.

Oh, and don't think about bringing homemade foods or mysterious containers to TSA.  They are not going to risk it over your grandma's famous chili in a mason jar.

Finally, the most surprising one to me: the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.  It's still banned due to fire risk, which is wild that it's still a think in 2025, but here we are.
