Is Rockford’s ‘Best Kept Secret’ also the Top Spot for Labor Day Brunch?

Forgive all the hyperbole, it's not me, it's Yelp and the people who review stuff on their site.

So while I was thinking about what to do this weekend, my feeble-minded brain started thinking about food.

Like, where I should eat this weekend? Then I consulted Yelp to find the Best Labor Day Brunch in Rockford.

At the top of the list is a joint I visited right at the start of my Ate One Five run, called The Norwegian at 1402 North Main Street.

Brian C. on Yelp called The Norwegian "Rockford's best keep secret in 2022. You could tell me it's not totally a secret and you'd be correct. But that's the only bone you can pick with me or this place."

Here's the deal. The Norwegian isn't open on Monday. Matter of fact, they're not open on Tuesday either mentioning it on Facebook just one day ago.

Norwegian on Facebook:

we’ll be starting new back-to-school hours next week. Beginning September 5th, we’ll be open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:30 am to 2 pm, & Thursday, Friday, & Saturday night from 5 pm to 9 pm. We’ll be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

So if you were hoping for The Norwegian to be your spot for a Labor Day Brunch, think again.

Also, I'm not sure what's up with Yelp recommending a place that is closed as the top spot but whatever.

So what do you do now? I guess if you want Labor Day Brunch in the 815 you go to the second highest rated joint on the list, Johnny Pamcakes.

I also know it's open on Labor Day because Yelp reviewer B H. says "We always come here with our friends on Labor day weekend. All of us are from out of town and we come here every year for the last 5 years."
