IL Music Fans Are Excited For Reopening Of Popular Record Store
After much anticipation, one of Rockford's favorite shops has risen from the ashes of a tragic fire that destroyed the business.
Shopping For Music In Rockford
It's funny, the other day someone asked me where I like to go shopping. I'm a pretty simple guy, so my list is relatively short. I basically like to go to record stores. When I'm on vacation, that's what I'm looking up to check out. Luckily, Rockford is home to a few. There's nothing like popping into a local music shop and spending some time walking around.
I've spent many a day hanging out at CD Source. I've followed them around to their different locations throughout the years. If they served food, I don't think I would ever leave. You can easily tell by my wardrobe that most of my money extra money goes to buy music.
Rockford Record Store Destroyed By Fire
Back in September of 2022, I saw the news when I got into the radio station. There was a fire at CD Source and the building was completely destroyed. It was a sad day for music fans throughout the Stateline area. Many irreplaceable records were ruined. The future of the local business was up in the air.
Good News For CD Source In Loves Park
There were weeks of speculation about what the future held for CD Source. At first, the owner wasn't sure if he could come back after this tragedy. With the amazing support of the customers, they made the decision to start again. It was incredible news for Rockford area music fans.
New Location For CD Source In Loves Park
It was so sad because after bouncing around to several locations over many years, CD Source had finally found a permanent home. The building was an old theater back in the day which made it so unique. Luckily, they didn't have to look far for a replacement.
They moved right across North Second Street into an old dry cleaner which is another interesting building that makes it special. It took a lot of work but they finally reopened today. I stopped by after work to check it out. I had a big smile on my face the whole time, and so did the huge group of customers there to support opening day.
The transformation is mind-blowing. Check out the photos from the construction, HERE. If you get a chance, stop by and say "hi" to the CD Source crew. With all the negativity in the world, it's a nice change of pace to hear a feel-good story.
