Rockford Airport is Bringing Back International Flights And A New Destination
Three new tropical destinations will be coming to the Chicago Rockford International Airport in 2027, including one that has never been offered before.
Flying Out of Rockford
I have lived in the Rockford area my entire life, and I’m about to confess something that should probably get my resident card revoked: I have never flown out of Chicago Rockford International Airport. Ever.

Every vacation I have ever gone on has involved flying out of O’Hare, Midway, or Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, and while most of my flights have been trouble-free, getting to and from those airports can be a pain.
People in the Rockford area rave about the convenience of traveling out of Chicago Rockford International Airport all the time. So, I am making it my mission to experience the convenience for myself soon... and these three new tropical destinations will be perfect.
International Flights Returning to Rockford
If you need an excuse to book a tropical getaway in 2027, this is it.
RFD officials confirmed to mystateline.com that seasonal international flights will be returning in 2027, including one brand new destination:
- Cancun, Mexico - Flights will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays starting January 23, 2027 through April 5, 2027.
- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - Flights will be offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays starting January 24, 2027 through April 1, 2027.
Booking for these new destinations should open soon, but if you can't wait until 2027 to take a vacation, RFD is currently offering non-stop flights to Nashville, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Sarasota, and St. Petersburg.
If you see a nervous blond lady at RFD next winter clutching a passport and acting way too excited about not driving to Chicago… mind your business. It’s probably me finally embracing the airport that’s been sitting in my own backyard this whole time.
