Rockford Police Arrest Four in Weekend Drug Bust, Attempted Car Theft

Rockford Police had another busy weekend with the arrest of four suspects in two separate incidents involving drugs and attempted vehicle theft.

Drug Bust on West State Street

According to a Rockford PD press release, SCOPE officers attempted a traffic stop on Saturday around 6:40 pm when the driver fled the area.

Officers deployed the StarChase tracking system, locating the vehicle near West State Street and Independence.

The driver, Arsenio Purifoy, 35, and a passenger, Terrick Mackey, 37, were arrested without incident. Investigators recovered a satchel containing approximately 28 grams of crack cocaine.

Charges Filed Against Suspects

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office charged Purifoy with aggravated fleeing to elude and additional traffic offenses.

Mackey faces charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, along with an outstanding warrant. Both remain lodged in the county jail.

Teens Arrested in Attempted Car Theft

In a separate incident on Sunday, September 21, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of South Main Street regarding criminal property damage.

Police were alerted to two teens allegedly breaking into vehicles, according to the press release.

A 16-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, both from Rockford, were taken into custody. Charges include attempted motor vehicle theft, felony criminal damage, and curfew violations.

The 14-year-old also faces probation violation and possession of burglary tools, and was lodged in juvenile detention.
