Over the past few months, and if soap and water aren't nearby, how many times have you used hand sanitizer to clean your hands?

Well, it looks, while we are meaning well to clean our hands up, we haven't been doing it right.

According to a new Center for Disease Control (CDC) study, we haven't been using quite enough hand sanitizer and for not enough time.

While we've been instructed to wash our hands for at least 20 seconds, how much time are you supposed to rub hand sanitizer into your hands?

Turns out the number is 30, as in 30 seconds. I can't tell you how many times over the past few months, I've turned to hand sanitizer, rubbed it into my hands and went on with my day.

Of the findings in the study, the CDC says "the defined inactivation time of exactly 30s, which is the time recommended but not routinely performed in practice. Our findings are crucial to minimize viral transmission and maximize virus inactivation in the current SARS-CoV-2 outbreak."

The study also outlined the types of hand sanitizer we should be used to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
