Loves Park Officials Cancel Young at Heart Parade and Fireworks
A stage filled with great bands, a field filled with carnival rides, games and attractions, fried deliciousness on a stick and a beer tent. On a warm weekend, there's almost nothing better than all those things I just mentioned. The COVID pandemic has kept us from these types of events for more than a year, already, and it's poised to do the same thing in 2021.
Loves Park city officials announced on Monday (4/19) that the Young at Heart parade and fireworks show, originally scheduled for May 29th, 2021, has been canceled..
“It is unfortunate that these great community events have been canceled again this year,
but we look forward to seeing everyone at the 2022 Young at Heart parade next year.
Organizers did have a little bit of good news, they have hopes of putting on a fireworks show later this summer.
These events don't return until we get to the other side of this pandemic. The medical professionals and scientists say that we need to achieve 'herd immunity', in order to be what we call being 'on the other side' of this. Herd immunity would be a number around 70 percent. That's means that more than 70 percent of us either have to be infected, or be vaccinated.
