High school was a LONG time ago for me, but I do remember how incredibly freaked out I was to take the ACT's when I was senior. I was a good student, (Top 25 in my class in fact), but a HORRIBLE test taker, and I was terrified that I would psych myself out and completely ruin my chances of getting into college while taking the ACT's.

I ended up doing alright on my test, and I had no problems getting into college, but I sure would have liked knowing a program like this existed in Illinois to relieve some of my pre-ACT anxiety.

Northern Illinois University just announced that beginning in 2021, admission decisions will be based on a "test-blind" process instead of SAT and ACT scores.

Northern's website says any high school senior with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher will have guaranteed admission to NIU beginning in 2021, but what happens to prospective students who have a grade point average less that that? Don't worry, you're not S.O.L., you'll just have to go through NIU's "test-blind" process.

According to niu.edu;

If your GPA is below 3.0, we'll get to know you through a holistic application review process – a flexible, personalized review of your application and circumstances. We know high school grades don't always tell the whole story.

Seniors, before you start rejoicing that you can sleep in on SAT and ACT testing day, please note that providing SAT and ACT scores will still be necessary for some NIU scholarship applications, and pretty much any other college you plan on applying to, so...start studying up.
