One of the ‘World’s Most Beautiful Museums’ is in Wisconsin
I'm stunned. As I was flipping through the list of The World's Most Beautiful Museums, half expecting to see an Illinois mention, I got Wisconsin instead.
Not saying that a museum in Wisconsin doesn't deserve to be on there, and solely by the look of it, it totally does, I was just expecting something else.
When I think of prestigious museums at least in the US, I think of the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry both of which are in Illinois, and both, I assume, would be on the list of world-class museums.
However, neither of those places made the list. A list, that includes the gorgeous Palazzo Ducale in Venice, Italy, and the stunning Museo de Arte Tigre in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Those two and many others on The World's Most Beautiful Museums list from Love Exploring have some incredible architectural design.
The Milwaukee Art Museum is no slouch either. Love Exploring explains:
Milwaukee Art Museum is comprised of three separate buildings and it's the Quadracci Pavilion that's the most noteworthy. Although it holds one of the largest collections of works by Wisconsin native Georgia O'Keeffe, the building itself receives just as much attention. It contains a movable, wing-like brise soleil (an architectural feature that reduces heat gain by deflecting sunlight), opening up to a total wingspan of 216ft 6in (66m) during the day and folds over the arched structure at night.
It seems like the inside of the Milwaukee Art Museum is just as impressive as the outside. If you're looking for a summer day trip, you should consider this place. It's 90 minutes from Rockford.
The Milwaukee Art Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and stays open late (til 8) on Thursday nights.
