Patrick Kane Dazzles At NHL All-Star Game
If there's one thing you can count on, it's that the fans in St. Louis won't show a lot of love for a Chicago athlete. Between the Cubs & Cardinals rivalry and the Blackhawks & Blues, you're bound to catch some flak for wearing Chicago sports gear around St. Louis.
That didn't stop Patrick Kane from showing out over the weekend at the NHL All-Star game in St. Louis. He started off the weekend winning the Shooting Stars Challenge in overtime. The Shooting Stars Challenge is a new All-Star game feature. NHL Players are standing on a platform in the crowd, shooting pucks onto the ice, trying to hit targets to gain points, and highest score wins. It's a combination of strength, accuracy, and a little bit of luck. After tying the mark of 22 points, Kane, Mitchell Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and Ryan O'Reilly of the St. Louis Blues all went to a one shot for all the marbles shootout. After Marner failed to register a point, Kane stepped up and got a 2 point target. O'Reilly in front of his home town fans came up blank and the Chicago Blackhawks' forward took home the crown.
His weekend didn't stop there though. During the 3-on-3 game Saturday, Kane lit the lamp twice against the Pacific Division All-Stars. Unfortunately his effort wasn't enough as the Central Division lost 10-5. Despite scoring two goals that would of helped St. Louis players advance, the crowd let Patrick Kane know how they feel about him with a parade of boos.
All in all, not a bad weekend for the Blackhawks' forward. The Hawks return to action Saturday in Arizona to take on the Phoenix Coyotes. Mark your calendars though for February 25th, that's the next time Kane and the boys head to St. Louis, and hopefully leave their fans booing even more.
