Putting The Boo in Boom – Illinois Doesn’t Use That Many Fireworks
Turns out Illinois isn't very into explosives for the holiday weekend.
When you think Fourth of July weekend - you probably think parades, grilling, good food, family fun, and of course the main event, fireworks! A new survey revealed which states set off the most fireworks. I've lived in Illinois my whole life and I've seen some good firework shows. But I didn't think we'd rank that high on the list. Turns out I was right.
Zippia revealed which states use the most fireworks, here's the top ten!
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- Kansas
- Alabama
- South Carolina
- Wyoming
- Nevada
- North Dakota
- Indiana
- Ohio
So how did they determine the ranking? According to Zippia -
The dollar amount of firework imports came from the US trade Census. So to determine that states with disproportionately high amounts of fireworks (and thus the most firework economic activity) we used population numbers from the US Census. From there, we determined the states with most firework spending per capita.
So where exactly did Illinois rank on the list?
#43
That's pretty low if you ask me. I thought we'd at least rank a little more in the middle. Our upstairs neighbor Wisconsin ranked #13 on the list. Then there's our other neighbor Missouri who ranked #1!
I'm going to blame it on the fact we can't buy fireworks in Illinois. Sure you can get some sparklers, but I'm talking about the big boys. You know, the one's you have to drive to Indiana for?
Whether you like fireworks or not, be safe this Fourth of July. And remember, as much as you love fireworks, your furry four-legged neighbors might not, so keep it tame.
