Revealed: Illinois Among America’s Top Hit-and-Run Hotspots

A new study says Illinois drivers are more likely to be in a hit-and-run accident than most of the other states in the nation. 

While some studies are saying that Illinois drivers are pretty great compared to many other drivers in the country, that doesn't mean we don't have problems.

A massive problem for those of us driving in Illinois is the hit-and-run rate.

According to a Personal Injury Firm, Suzuki Law Offices, Illinois has the second worst fatal hit-and-run rate in the entire country, rounding out to 46 percent higher than the national average.

That's terrible.

The info comes from data collected between 2017 and 2021 from the National Highway Safety Administration, with 452 people in Illinois losing their lives in hit-and-run accidents.

If you're wondering who tops the list, this doesn't come as too much of a surprise, that honor goes to one of the biggest and busiest states in the country, California.

While Illinois does take second place when it comes to fatal hit-and-runs, if you're just analyzing all hit-and-run accidents, regardless of the outcome, the second place honor goes to Texas.

So where does this leave us? Hoping that we can turn things around in 2024, right? Obey the traffic laws, keep a safe distance from the car in front of you at all times, watch out for pedestrians and if you do get into an accident, do not flee the scene. Call the police.
