If you've ever considered giving blood, now would be a great time to try it.

The Rock River Valley Blood Center desperately needs your blood, and mine too.

Seriously, reading this story on the RRVBC website made me feel just terrible, and I'm about to give them a call and go back in to donate.

High usage at area hospitals, slower than usual donor traffic, and mechanical issues on one of the mobile blood drive vehicles has left local blood supplies at dangerously low levels. “The Rock River Valley Blood Center (RRVBC) has less than a 1 day supply of types A negative and B negative blood and less than a 2 day supply of type O negative. Several shootings and car accidents have resulted in the need for more blood. Also, mechanical issues on one of the blood center’s mobile collection vehicles has caused the cancellation of 3 blood drives resulting in nearly 100 lost units this week,” stated RRVBC spokesperson Jennifer Bowman.

A few months ago, I donated for the first time in a very long time and I was concerned I wouldn't be able to donate or I would want to pass out afterwards and none of that was true.

It was super simple, didn't take too much time and I felt a little tired that afternoon, but nothing a night on the couch couldn't cure.

If you are healthy and able, please consider donating blood here in Rockford!
