Lady Liberty has left New York for Rochelle, Illinois, or so it may seem. This statue is very different.

Sculptor Fran Voltz created the statue made out of hay that now stands tall on Route 38 in Rochelle, right in front of Sullivan's Grocery Store, according to wifr.com. Fran's Lady Liberty recreation is 21-feet tall and weighs 400 pounds. Each piece of straw was placed with such care as to preserve every detail of the real Statue of Liberty right down to her toes. And while building the straw sculpture was one big task, the other was moving her from Fran's garage to it's location on Route 38 and making sure she can withstand the weather of the next couple months.

I'll bet you're wondering why Fran Voltz created this straw sculpture. His amazing creation is being used to promote Rochelle's first ever straw sculpting competition. In fact, it's the first competition of its kind in the country. To sign up to be in the completion, you need to visit here.

The straw sculpting competition begins September 2nd. Starting October 10th, all of the statues in the competition will be displayed in front of Rochelle High School to kick off Rochelle's first Hay Day Fall Festival.
