You don't have to drive into Chicago to try some of the best food in America.

You could just stay home and eat at a myriad of the amazing restaurants in Rockford, but what if you want to try something that is getting some national attention and don't want to deal with a trip to the Windy City?

That's where a trip to Watertown, Wisconsin can take care of all those things.

You avoid Chicago and at the same time, you get to try something folks are talking about, specifically The Daily Meal.

The Daily Meal's "101 Best Burgers in America" ranked the best in the US and while Chicago is well represented (three different burgers in the top 10), one really caught my eye, the Double Cheeseburger from Zwieg's Grill in Watertown, Wisconsin.

This mainstay has been slinging burgers and other classic diner fare for more than 70 years, and the burgers coming off of the griddle are just about perfect. Enjoying two of these thin and crusty burgers draped in melted cheese and tucked onto a squishy bun while perched on a stool at the counter may just be the ideal burger-eating experience.

Averaging four stars on Yelp, Zwieg's reviewers say "one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had" and "the perfect combo of white bread, white potato, and American cheese that just works so well."

If you're looking for something that is a bit off the beaten path but seemingly well worth the trip, you could apparently do way worse.

Zwieg's Grill, in Watertown Wisconsin, about 75 miles from Rockford, is open Monday through Thursday 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
