While Illinois politicians were discussing the budget, they put their differences aside to vote unanimously on an official state vegetable.

All jokes aside, making sweet corn the official state vegetable was a really sweet gesture to honor the request of a group of fourth-graders at Chatham Elementary School. The governor has yet to act on legislation that designates pumpkin pie as the official state pie because priorities.
