Someone Dropped A Gold Coin In A Salvation Army Red Kettle At Gray’s On Alpine
If you've been waiting to drop a gold coin in one of the Salvation Army Red Kettles this season, you've got some catching up to do.
That's because someone already beat you to the punch on Tuesday. Even better, just a few days ago kicked off Giving Tuesday, a day "celebrated in the US on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to encourage acts of generosity during the holidays and on every Tuesday."
Whoever the kind citizen might be that dropped in a 1-ounce gold South African Krugerrand worth an estimated $1.790, really took the "giving" part of "Giving Tuesday" seriously.
In a Salvation Army press release, Major Mark Martsolf said, "The gold coin is just a reminder to me, that even in very difficult times the people of our community are generous people who care about their neighbors."
In case you're wondering which Red Kettle in particular the very expensive gold coin was found, it's the one just outside Gray's Foods at 1630 North Alpine Road.
If you are in the giving mood, which we hope you are, don't forget you can continue to help out the Salvation Army this Friday at the 12 Hours of Salvation Toy Drive at Lou Bachrodt AutoMall. We'll be collecting new unwrapped toys for kids in the Rockford area all day.
