Someone In Rockford Falsely Reported Gunman At Northwestern

Today was scary for staff and students at Northwestern University after a shooting was reported in a dormitory in Evanston. The news broke across social media and major news outlets reporting a shooting and lockdown.

Ultimately, authorities would learn it was a false report - a hoax (thankfully).

WIFR reported the false report as a swatting incident and that the call was made from Rockford.

WBBM reports the call, alleging a shooting had happened inside a graduate student dorm on the university's campus, originated in Rockford.

 

Police say they are now looking for the person who made the call and are investigating this as a hoax.

Hopefully, more information regarding the call will become available. We're glad everyone is OK.
