You know that I'm a huge pizza fan and a connoisseur of delicious food in general. So taking on a diet that requires me to eat the most boring meals in the history of the world is quite an undertaking.

Little backstory, a couple of years ago I was in the best shape of my life. Running everyday, eating somewhat healthy, and I was incredibly happy.

I finished my first half marathon and I thought I'd take some time off. I was still running but not as much and I started to care less about what I was eating.

I put some weight on, nothing where I was forced to buy new clothes but noticeable. Then in late 2014, I injured my knee. I tore my ACL, LCL and meniscus in two spots. It was a pretty bad injury. I was laid up for a while, couldn't run, or exercise. I put on a few more pounds while sitting around and the recovery from the surgery continues today. Anyone who's had major reconstructive knee surgery will tell you just how difficult it is to get back to what you were doing the day before the injury.

Fast forward to today. I'm running five days a week and I wanted to do something that would really kick start my metabolism and push me back towards the healthy lifestyle I once had. That's when I found this thing called the "Military Diet."

What is the "Military Diet?" Well, according to Calorie Bee, "A military gentleman who attended our church some years back introduced me to this diet. He said that military recruits use this diet when they need to get in shape quickly."

Long story short, this is a diet for those who don't and can't commit to long term diet plans. It's a crash diet, and these types of diets are a recipe for disaster.

So I gave the diet a shot. I knew I worked out, I also knew that if I followed a proven plan of success I shouldn't have any issues.

The diet is rather clear about what you can and can't eat. Calorie Bee believes that if you follow the plan you could lose up to ten pounds in one week. The diet consists of three days of following strict food and meal guidelines then the rest of the week eating like a normal person.

That sounded crazy to me when I heard it and one week later, I still find it hard to believe.

The big belief behind the Military Diet is eating 1,000 calories a day and drinking half your body weight in ounces of water. At the end of the day, the diet is all about fasting.

Here's what I ate on day one:

Breakfast:

  • 1/2 grapefruit
  • 1 slice of bread
  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter

Lunch:

  • 1/2 cup of tuna
  • 1 slice of bread

Dinner:

  • 3 oz. of chicken
  • 1 cup of green beans
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 apple
  • 1 cup of vanilla ice cream

That's it. See what I ate for the last two days of the crazy "Military Diet" on the Calorie Bee website.

When I started the diet I weighed 231 pounds. When I weighed myself today, I checked in at 231.2 pounds. I gained weight! What did I do wrong?

Will the .2 pound weight gain convince me to drop the diet? I doubt it.

Have you tried the "Military Diet?" Have you had good results?
