We all know the usual reasons for needing a cup of coffee in the morning ... you had a late night, you had a wild night, or if you're like me you have a 3 am wake up call.

I first started drinking coffee because I liked the taste, now I drink it as if my life depends on it. Turns out how much coffee you drink is actually based on your genetics. So does that mean if your parents drink it you're going to drink it? Kind of, but it's actually a lot more interesting than that.

According to Bustle -

A new study has indicated that the amount of coffee you drink is related to your genetically influenced sensitivity to its bitter taste — and oddly, the more sensitive you are, the more you're likely to drink.

Researchers from Northwestern University in Chicago and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute in Australia studied the connection between our perception of coffee's bitterness and how much of it we drink.

So in simple terms, if we are more sensitive to the bitterness of coffee, we drink more of it. Sounds like the opposite of what should happen in my opinion, but I believe the scientists on this one.
