Great shopping, great scenery, sipping cocktails at one of many downtown spots and tremendous food. The nearby town of Williams Bay is where you can hike the entire lake shore.

2. New Glarus, Wisconsin

Duh... Spotted Cow Beer. New Glarus, aka 'America's Little Switzerland', is also famous for their fondue.

3. Galena, Illinois

This historic town is filled with old mansions and hotels. Strolling on cobblestone streets while you window shop. Hiking along the river too. Make sure you eat lunch at Durty Gurt's.

4. Ottawa, Illinois

If you've never been to Starved Rock State park you're missing out. Great hiking on the bluffs and waterfalls too. The Sunday brunch at Starved Rock Lodge is amazing.

5. Geneva, Illinois

Dining and sipping along the Fox River. Geneva and nearby St. Charles are quite well-known for many restaurants with outdoor seating along the river.
