This winter, try out a new hobby and go snowshoeing near Rockford.

I am like a lot of people in our community and trying to find activities to keep me busy. Especially, something to get me off the couch. When the weather was better, I really enjoyed going for walks. I can not get into it when it is cold and there is snow on the ground.

I need to find a new hobby. Maybe something I have never done before. When it comes to winter sports, I have done a lot of them. That list includes sledding, skating, and skiing to just name a few. Since I have gotten older, I prefer mellow activities.

There is something I've always want to experience but never have. That is snowshoeing. I think I saw it in a movie or television show as a kid and have been fascinated ever since. Maybe, it is because it looks like you are using tennis rackets as shoes. It could be the fact you can walk over snow. Whatever the case, this might be the year to give it a shot.

Luckily, living in northern Illinois, there are plenty of places to do it. Some are even in Rockford with other options not too far away from the Forest City.

According to chicagomag.com,

"Snowshoes have come a long way since the days of those tennis-racket-looking things strapped to your feet. Today, even a cheap pair can open up access to trails and terrain hard to reach on foot — and those big strides burn more calories than running. Here are three spots with easy rental options and gorgeous scenery."
