But a new Allrecipes survey highlighting the most-searched-for unique Thanksgiving recipe in each state shows that one Midwest state is doing things very differently, and far more boldly, than the rest.

Wisconsin’s winning recipe isn’t a vegetable. It isn’t a casserole. It isn’t even anything you’d typically serve next to turkey. But it is the dish that steals the spotlight every time it appears on a holiday table.

The Survey That Proves Wisconsin Doesn’t Play It Safe

When Allrecipes ranked each state’s unique Thanksgiving standout, most states played it pretty tame. Some stuck to comfort food, others hovered near tradition, and at least one opted for something as mild as glazed carrots. Wisconsin, however, took a sharp left turn into pure festive chaos.

Surrounding States Stayed Predictable

A quick look around the region makes Wisconsin’s choice even more impressive:

Illinois: Glazed Carrots — simple, sweet, and nowhere near the main event.
Indiana: Dirt Pudding — nostalgic, but still familiar territory.
Iowa: A similar pick to Wisconsin, but delivered with less statewide swagger.

All solid choices… but none with the surprise factor Wisconsin brings to the table.
