United Airlines Raises Checked Bag Fees for 2026

Just when you thought things couldn’t get more expensive, United Airlines, headquartered out of Chicago, is like, “Hold on a second.”

That’s because, despite everything in America costing you more, now seems like a good time for one of the most popular airlines in the world to raise prices on checked bags.

New United Baggage Fees for First and Second Bags

Now, United is going to charge more for the first bag, up to $10, now at $45. Let’s hope you aren’t bringing two bags along, because the second will now run you a paltry $55.

This applies to flights out of the Americas, Mexico, Canada, and Latin America.

Now there are some ways to avoid spending copious amounts of money to check your stuff, like if you are a credit card holder, a loyalty or military member, or if you book a seat in a premium cabin.

Why United Says Bag Prices Are Increasing

United says rising fuel costs are the reason, and while it’s hard to dispute that gas is expensive right now, I didn’t see them say this move was only temporary.

You know why? Because it’s not. That said, United isn’t alone in raising prices, as both Delta and JetBlue have raised fees.
