Illinois Walmart Stores Testing Self-Unlocking System For Secured Items
Earlier this year, Walmart and Target stores started locking up items behind glass to control theft happening across their stores. Now, Walmart is testing out a new system to ease customer frustration.
You've gone to many stores and spotted hygiene products, electronics, and high-ticketed items locked up to prevent shoplifters from walking out with them.

Many employees already have access to digital keys to unlocked products. If you're a Walmart+ member, this perk could become available to you very soon.
Bloomberg reported,
“Walmart is currently testing this out at hundreds of its stores, and it has discussed possibly expanding the technology to allow Walmart+ members to have a mobile key to access locked-up products.”
This technology is already in use at hundreds of Walmart stores across the country.
A woman on TikTok even shared a video of an employee unlocking the case with a "digital key". This is actually pretty cool!

As great as that sounds, I still think it's not convenient enough. People don't want to ask for help at all!
A good chunk of us would happily go to another store if we saw the item we needed was locked up. When stores are understaffed, too busy, or just not attentive enough, it can take forever to get an associate over to help grab one item for you.
It's all about efficiency and convenience for many shoppers. If you take too long, you might just lose a sale.
Do you think this self-unlocking system would be even more of a hassle or make customers happier?
