Popeye eats spinach so he can be strong, but he's probably getting smarter because of it too!

Which is awesome because I had spinach for breakfast, bring it on Popeye.

I think most of us know that fruits and vegetables are good for us, but it's fun sometimes to read a little more about specific foods and how they can impact our bodies and our brains.

According to Self Magazine, there are five foods that we should eat to make us smarter, and luckily I like three of them, and actually have those three in my fridge right now.

Here's the list along with why we should eat these foods.

  1. Blueberries - Blueberries are antioxidants and give us a bunch of vitamin C and E. Those of us who eat blueberries score higher on memory tests and reasoning.
  2. Salmon - Omega-3 DHA is found in salmon and help benefit our brain functioning, giving you a boost.
  3. Coffee - This one is a no-brainer, coffee has caffeine that makes and keeps you alert through the day, just, of course, make sure that you aren't over-doing it.
  4. Spinach - Spinach is filled with iron, and iron is an oxygen carrier for our bodies and brains, which helps us think clearly.
  5. Clams - Clams are on this list because of their high amounts of vitamin B12, which aids in moving messages around in your brain, you should pair them with tomatoes, avocado and beets. If you (like me) don't want to eat clams, we can try chicken, lamb, milk or eggs instead.
