1. Typos. Even though you KNOW how bad typos are, three out of five resumes have them. A lot of the time they happen to smart people who tweak their resumes at the last minute and don't fully proofread afterward.

2. Length. The best rule is one page for every 10 years of work experience.

3. Formatting. Save it as a pdf and don't send it as a Microsoft Word document, since those can look different on different people's computers depending on their operating system and version of Word.

4. Including confidential information. If you expose confidential info from your past company, it's a sign you'll do that to the company you're applying to.

5. Lies. They follow you forever, so even if you get the job, having that lie hanging over you means you could get fired down the road.
