Everything You Need To Know About Rockford’s Summer Road Construction
We're getting closer to summer in Rockford and if you've lived here for even one minute you know that means road construction.
The City of Rockford website outlined five projects that are slated to start this year and most will begin this summer if not earlier.
Keep in mind, these are the major projects, smaller scale road construction dates and outlines are nowhere to be found on the City of Rockford website.
If you drive these roadways during the summer to and from work, you may want to plan a different route.
- Charles Street Box Culvert Repairs. Said to start this spring and run all the way through winter of this year. "This much-needed rehabilitation will add 20-30 years of life to the structure. The City will be utilizing local funds for this project." says the City of Rockford.
- Chestnut Street Bridge Active Transportation Enhancements. Supposed to start this summer and roll through winter of this year. "This project will include engineering and construction of a more active transportation friendly facility along the bridge, providing a safer barrier between vehicles and other roadway users."
- East State Street (Mill Road-Bell School Road). This project looks like it's set to begin this fall but will go into winter of 2019. "The project will include the widening of the East State Street & Perryville Road intersection to give it a higher capacity for the increasing traffic volumes." per City of Rockford website.
- Strathmoor Drive Extension. Project design starts this summer "The project will include a roadway extension, property acquisition, bicycle and pedestrian considerations and intersection improvements at both Roxbury Road and Mulford Road." according to RockfordIL.gov. Construction begins late 2018 and is supposed to wrap up by the end of 2019.
- North Main Street Reconstruction. Under construction since 2015, "similar roadway work will commence north of the Railroad through Riverside Boulevard." The construction will mercifully wrap up "summer 2019," according to City of Rockford website.
