Cinco De Mayo falls on a Thursday this year but the fun spills into the weekend with the Cinco De Rockford celebration outside of Don Carter Lanes this Saturday afternoon.

The event kicks off this Saturday from 1-8PM in the old Magna parking lot next to Don Carter Lanes off of East State Street on Rockford's Miracle Mile.

The event is free (donations are welcome), just get ready to have a great time.

Food trucks, food vendors, art, artisans, live music, and cold drinks are all on deck for a great Saturday afternoon.

Personally, I'll be going there for the food, because it all looks awesome.

Of course there will be plenty of tamales there for the tamalefest.

And the food trucks that are signed up to be on location are some of the best in town.

You can find these guys at all the best food truck events. They serve the classics but make sure you take a look at some of their more creative inventions. You won't leave hungry.

I personally am not familiar with Don Chatos and I'm also not sure what kekas are. A preliminary google search says that they're kind of like cheese filled empanadas? I'll know for sure after I check it out on Saturday.

If you've never had Puerto Rican food or don't really even know what it is. Do yourself a favor and just walk up to this truck and have them tell you what to get. You won't be steered wrong.

In addition to the great food, you can walk around, listen to music, look at and maybe buy some art. It'll be a great time.

It all starts at 1PM this Saturday, May 7th right next to Don Carter Lanes in Rockford.

Look for me, I'll be the one with an armful of food.
