If you're anything like me, you love walking around downtown Rockford; not just for the amazing shops and diners but for the buildings. Next month marks my one year anniversary living in Rockford and I'm still getting to know a lot about the city; that's why I love all the historic buildings downtown. I'm in love with what they're becoming, but I'm also curious about what they used to be.

There's a lot of history in Rockford and thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation, the Midway Village Museum will now be able to set up a historical walking tour of downtown Rockford; and for those of us who are curious about the Forest City's past, we'll get that opportunity to find out exactly what those buildings used to be.

According to Rockford Buzz, the tour is in the early stages of development, but once it's ready to launch it will feature plaques that describe the history of 20 different buildings and establishments.

David Byrnes, President of Midway Village Museum, says, "“The tour will provide residents and visitors an opportunity to get to know the people who developed our city.”

Now if we could just get them to throw in a few segues.
