I can count on both hands and feet the amount of people I know who have purchased bookshelves and dressers from Ikea which is why this story is so scary; especially for parents who have small children who love to climb on things.

According to WREX, Ikea is recalling 29 million chests and dressers, specifically the Malm model, after three children were killed in the last two years when the dresser toppled over and fell on them. Several injuries have also been reported.

If you think you have one of these dressers in your home, or know someone who does, here's what you need to know:

  • The units under the recall are children's chests and drawers taller than 23.5 inches and adult chests and dressers that are taller than 29.5 inches.
  • Ikea is offering a refund if your dresser was sold between 2002 and 2016.
  • Dressers and chests purchased before 2002 will be eligible for a store credit for half the original sale price.
  • If you have one of these units, please keep it out of your child's reach.
  • Ikea is offering free kits to attach the dresser to your wall should you choose to keep it.

If you have any questions or concerns about the recall, you can contact Ikea at 1-866-856-4532.
