Illinois’ Six Flags Great America is Ready for the 2023 Season

Get ready to scream your lungs out, because Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois has just announced the opening date for the 2023 season.

Deep in the heart of Illinois, nestled among rolling hills and lush forests, lies a magical place where adventure awaits at every turn. I still remember my first visit, driving all the way from Madison, Wisconsin at six in the morning. Even though I hated being woken up so early for a long drive, it was the destination of dreams on the other end.

This place is Six Flags Great America, the largest theme park in Illinois. I'd never seen anything so big, and that was just inside the entrance taking the obligatory family photo in front of the pond and carousel.

At the age of 12, while taking that photo, I realized I had only ever seen things like this at the small traveling carnivals that came to town a couple of times a year. To me, this absolutely was the greatest carnival in the world, because at that time I had no idea what a 'theme park' was.

When Does Six Flags Great America Open for the 2023 Season

Giant, thrilling roller coasters, exciting attractions, and mouth-watering food in every direction are all set to make their grand return on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023.

Most days and weekends, the park will open at 10:30 a.m., with closing time varying between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. during the week, and 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the weekends, according to Great America's online schedule.

It's always a good idea to check Six Flags Great America's website and social media for the latest updates on hours of operation and announcements of rides and/or attractions that may be temporarily closed.
