Wearing a seat belt is so important, here's what the Illinois State Police has to say about it.

I can't believe people still don't put on their seat belts or make sure their children are properly placed in a car seat. It's 2020 people. We all know it's dangerous if you don't. I've been buckling ever since I got my permit.

In a recent post,  here's what the Illinois State Police had to say about it on their Facebook page.

  • 22,634 seatbelt citations were issued in 2019.
  • 2,657 child restraint citations were issued in 2019.
  • A few reminders.
  • Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children of every age from 4 to 14 years old.
  • All occupants are required to be buckled in the vehicle. Front seat and back seat.
  • You may only transport as many people as there are seatbelts....no sharing, no laying on the floorboard, no laying in cargo area or trunk, no riding in the back of pickup trucks. For example, if the 4 door car has five seatbelts, only five people can be in there.
  • Children under age 2 are required by law to be in rear-facing child restraint systems (unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall).
  • Children under age 8 must be in a booster seat.
  • Child restraint citations are a mandatory court appearance.

I hope you follow the law for the safety of you and your family.
