Valentine's Day is almost here, and love is in the air...unless you live in Illinois, apparently.

Valentine's Day For Parents

Today I saw several of my mom friends share this post on Facebook, and I absolutely agree:

Right now, my life completely revolves around my daughters' basketball games and practices, and the only Valentine's Day thoughts that are in my brain are about class valentines and party treats.

Truth be told, I have never been much of a Valentine's Day girl. Is it nice to be spoiled with flowers, presents, and chocolates? Of course, but I don't need any of those things to feel loved and appreciated.

Am I anti-Valentine's Day because I am too busy and have been married too long? Perhaps.

Or, maybe it's because I live in Illinois.

The Most Anti-Valentine's Day States

Illinois may be full of amazing restaurants and date-night worthy places to go and experiences to enjoy, but when it comes to Valentine's Day, Illinoisans aren't feeling it.

A new report from Hard Rock Bet ranked the most anti-Valentine’s states in America based on things like:

  • Number of divorce lawyers
  • Percentage of unmarried residents
  • Negative social media posts about Valentine’s Day
  • How often people are Googling anti-love phrases like "relationship red flags" or "how to break up with my partner"

Can you guess where Illinois ranked? Fourth.

Illinois is the fourth most anti-Valentine's Day state in the nation.

Need numeric proof? Here are the three findings that shocked me the most:

  • Each month Illinoisans Google anti-Valentine's terms 13,740 times.
  • 53.4% of Illinois residents are unmarried.
  • 42% of social media posts about Valentine’s Day in Illinois are negative.

I'm choosing to believe that Illinois is not truly anti-Valentine's Day, and that we're more anti-buying overpriced flowers and chocolate instead.

FYI, the top three most anti-Valentine's Day states in America are Florida (#3), New York (#2) and California (#1), so it could always be worse here in Illinois.
