Downtown Construction Is Changing Rockford’s IRONMAN Experience
Rockford's second IRONMAN 70.3 competition is set for June 14, but construction issues have forced some major changes to the race map this year.
IRONMAN Watch Party
A few days ago I received an invitation from one of my besties to an IRONMAN Watch Party at her house on Sunday, June 14.
Last year, the biking portion of Rockford's IRONMAN competition went right by her house in Rockton, so she wants to gather a large group to cheer the competitors on this year.

As I got excited for the chance to witness these incredible athletes in action from a lawn chair with a mimosa in my hand, I had a thought…will the construction in Downtown Rockford force changes to the IRONMAN race this year?
That answer is yes.
Changes to IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford
For those that are unaware, IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford consists of a 1.2-mile swim in the Rock River, a 56-mile bike course throughout Northern Illinois, and a 13.1-mile run through downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
In 2025, IRONMAN utilized the Davis Park area for many of the competition's events, but due to ongoing construction, that won't be possible this year.
The biggest update for 2026 is that parts of the downtown layout and spectator areas are being adjusted because of ongoing construction projects in Rockford.
Go Rockford CEO John Groh told the Rockford Register Star:
What you saw last year is not going to be happening this year. So what you saw last year was the transition, the bikes were in Davis and Ironman Village, all the tents, all the merchandise, that was all in Davis Park. None of that's happening in Davis this year.
Multiuse paths in Davis Park will be ready for IRONMAN athletes to run on, but no spectators will be allowed in the park grounds.
Some other major changes to IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford this year include:
- Athlete's Village will be located in the parking lot located in front of the Rockford Park District building at 401 S. Main St.
- Competitors will exit the swim portion and mount their bikes near the E. J. Zeke Giorgi Center at 200 S. Wyman St.
