It's much older than 18.

The day I turned 18, I went out about bought a slew of lottery tickets, which was awesome, but didn't make me feel like an adult.

The weekend after I turned 21, I bought my first bottle of watermelon vodka and saved that bottle in my apartment for a few years. I didn't feel like an adult when I did that either, probably because I used it to make alcoholic milkshakes.

When I turned 25, I packed up all of my things from my apartment in L.A. and moved back home to Schaumburg. Still didn't feel like an adult.

Now I'm 28 and I just moved out of my parents house (again) and while that part of me is definitely more adult-y, it's kind of like the version of adult-ness that you get when you're 23, not 28.

But, good news for me and all of you in my life boat.

Most people don't feel like an actual adult until they turn 29.

I did not go out and do this research, but someone else did, so we can rely on their study.

Digging through their study, we find that people don't seem to feel like an adult until they own a home or until they are no longer financially connected to their parents.

That totally explains it for me.

The study, from Science.Mic, cites these ten signs of feeling like an adult:

Top 10 signs of becoming an adult:

1. Buying a home — 64%
2. Having kids — 63%
3. Marriage — 52%
4. Having a pension — 29%
5. Being in charge of your home's appearance — 22%
6. Life insurance — 21%
7. Getting excited about staying in for the night — 21%
8. DIY work — 18%
9. Being a dinner party host — 18%
10. A joint bank account — 17%

Yep. I'm not an adult yet.
