Rock Valley College Offers Active Shooter Training
School shootings are happening too often to ignore, and although this fact is infuriating, it's something students and staff at schools worldwide need to be prepared for.
On Tuesday afternoon Rock Valley College students and staff gathered at the campus' Student Center to honor and discuss their feelings about the event that took 17 lives in Florida two weeks ago.
Rock Valley College Police officers were also there to stress the importance of knowing what to do in the face of such a terrifying event, and also to let everyone know they offer active shooter training courses to help them be prepared.
RVC Police Chief Joe Drought told WTVO Eyewitness News;
"We don't have control over the time, location, and method of attack," said Drought. "But, we do have some things in our control like reducing the number of victims that are available to the attacker."
RVC Police offers this 90-120 minute "Practical Response to Active Shooter" training course at least twice a year to staff and students, but will do it by request as well. To find out more, contact the Rock Valley Police Department online or call (815) 921-4350.
