Illinois Educator Recognized For Creating an Inclusive Environment

Drayton Eggleson, the beloved choir teacher at Sycamore High School, has been honored as the 97ZOK Teacher of the Week for his dedication to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment in his class.

Congratulations to Drayton Eggleson from Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Illinois

Kaitlyn Ryder pictured above) nominated Mr. Eggleson, she writes,

Mr. Eggleson or as we like to call him Mr. E is my high school choir teacher and has been for the last 3 years and will be next year for my final year of high school. Going to choir is my favorite part of my day at school because, for those 45 minutes, Mr. E provides an environment where I am able to be myself. If you are having a bad day he will crack jokes until you are forced to smile and forget about all of your problems. He knows each one of us individually and works with us to better ourselves in our musical ability’s. Mr. E never fails to remind us that we are important and that our opinions matter. I truly believe the reason that I love choir so much is not because it’s a class where I get to sing but because of the fact that Mr. E makes his class feel like a family and includes us in everything that we are learning and lets us decide the journey we go on.

Mr. E does many things outside of school to make him a better musician such as performing in a group called Saint Charles Singers and even goes on tour in Texas for one week out of the year with a group called Conspirare which is a Grammy award-winning group and has performed a solo with them as well. All of these things he does inspire me and give me hope that I might be able to perform in choirs such as these in the future with him as my teacher.
