New Arts & Crafts Thrift Store Coming To Downtown Rockford
In 2021, an idea was born that is finally turning reality in downtown Rockford very soon.
A new crafty thrift store is opening downtown where you can donate supplies, get creative, and host parties with your book clubs, craft groups, and more. It's all about to go down at The Scrap Jar.
One the west end, The Scrap Jar will have a shop space for guests to find supplies for junk journaling, fabric, yarn, pottery, paper crafting, etc.
On the west end, it'll be a creative event space hosting craft workshops, art classes, open mic nights, and a place where clubs can hangout, host birthday parties, and have book clubs.

I’ve never been one to buy anything brand new, always opting for secondhand treasures. What I love most about The Scrap Jar? It promotes reusing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. Not only does thrifting help reduce waste, but it gives forgotten goods a second chance in a new home! It allows us to create something beautiful and unique with someone else's scraps. It’s a win for both the planet and the creatives alike!
Angela Martinez, the owner of The Scrap Jar (324 E State St in downtown Rockford), is hoping to have the shop open by the time ArtScene rolls around in late April. If you're interested in donating any gently used craft and art supplies to Angela's shop, you can find her on Facebook and Instagram to set up a time to drop off donations.
Joann Fabrics, popular craft and supply store in Rockford, has announced they're closing after 82 years in business. Read more about that story here.
