Hibernation is over for the bears at the Madison Zoo, so time for a visit.

When I look back at my childhood, I consider myself a pretty lucky kid. My family did a lot of amazing things through the years. My parents really wanted me to experience many different things. A lot of times during the weekends, we were on some sort of adventure.

Plus, we would take an interesting summer vacation. No two were the same. No matter where we ended up, my mom and dad would make sure I got to do fun things. It could be an amusement park, museum, or roadside attraction to just name a few.

One of my favorite stops would be a zoo, wildlife park, or something involving animals. I have always been an animal lover. The first thing I wanted to check out was the bears. They kept me entertained. Especially, in the summertime playing in their pools. They can be pretty amusing.

When I was pretty young, I remember going with my grandpa. Back in those days, you could feed some of the animals. They actually let visitors throw marshmallows to the bear for a snack. He had a good arm and could get it to them every time. Somewhere in the family archives, there is old-school movie footage of him doing it.

My whole family loves animals, so my wife and I have taken our daughter to the zoo since she was old enough to check it out. Like me, she really enjoys watching the bears. It is a highlight for us.

We liked taking her to the Madison Zoo because it was free, easy to get to, and not super crowded. I even got to be a chaperone on one of her school field trips there. If you have never been, I recommend checking it out. It is actually a good time to take a trip up there.

According to channel3000.com,

"It’s another sign of spring in Madison. Ash and Lexi, the two grizzly bears that call Henry Vilas Zoo home, woke up from their winter torpor. Staff said it will take a few weeks for the duo to get their energy back and lose the weight they gained for the winter."

For the Henry Vilas Zoo Facebook page...

Honestly, I did not know that the bears living in zoos still hibernated. These might be the only bears people in Wisconsin like.
