Every school has legendary teachers, and at Harlem High School, many say that Mrs. Stark is that educator.

Every week, we have the honor of celebrating teachers around the Stateline with gifts from Nothing Bundt Cakes, WM DaySpa Salon, and the Redd Insurance Group.  This week, we made a stop to Harlem to surprise a teacher who's been teaching for 37 years and has plans of retirement at the end of the year.

No better time to celebrate her than now!

Congratulations, Jennifer Stark from Harlem High School!

Zachary Sievers wrote this beautiful letter about Mrs. Stark!

"I would like to nominate an extraordinary educator for 97ZOK Teacher of the Week. Mrs. Stark has left a lasting impact not just on me, but on countless students over the years.
My high school history teacher, who taught AP World History, is truly one of a kind. She has dedicated more years to the Harlem School District than any other current teacher, and as she prepares to retire this year, it feels only right to recognize the incredible legacy she leaves behind. What makes her impact even more special is that her influence spans generations. My mom also had her as a teacher back in the 90s. Few educators can say they’ve shaped families across decades, but she absolutely has.
Her classroom was never just about memorizing dates or preparing for exams. It was about understanding the world, thinking critically, and becoming a more informed and engaged person. She had a way of bringing history to life that made every lesson meaningful and memorable.
Her classroom itself reflected that same passion and creativity. It was one of the most unique and welcoming spaces in the school, filled with vibrant decor, meaningful posters, photos, and even her signature homemade lava lamps. It was an environment she thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity and comfort, and just like her teaching, it was full of personality, energy, and style.
Beyond the classroom, she served as my Model UN coach, and that’s where her impact became even more profound. She pushed us to think globally, speak confidently, and represent ideas with passion and integrity. She believed in her students even when we didn’t fully believe in ourselves yet, and that belief made all the difference.
What truly sets her apart is her genuine care for her students. She invested in us as people. She encouraged us, challenged us, and celebrated our growth. Even outside of school, she continues to show up for her students. Many of us have met with her for coffee at Meg’s or lunch on weekends, moments that mean so much and speak volumes about the kind of person she is.
As she retires, I can’t think of anyone more deserving of recognition. She has shaped generations of students and leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, confidence, and compassion that will continue long after she leaves the classroom.
Thank you for considering this nomination for a truly remarkable teacher."
